Annoying filters

One of the most serious problems during my addiction has been my fixation with internet pornography. It’s everywhere! It’s so easy to find, and it’s very quickly accessible. I could spend hours searching, looking at, and downloading pictures and videos. I would lose all sense of important work deadlines just to surf needlessly for porn. Internet porn was often the initiator of other sexual acts – like visiting prostitutes, chatting online with strangers, or simply masturbating.

Therefore, when I finally decided to face my problem I knew that I had to block porn influence. The best way to do this was making use of content filters that are available on the browser you are using. Since these built-in filters can be easily disabled or avoided, I went for the commercial solution by purchasing a copy of cyberpatrol. In fact, I handed over the administration rights (i.e the password) to Christina (my ex). If you ever want to get serious about you porn habits then you must give the admin rights to another person. If you don’t ask someone else, you are only cheating yourself.

Cyberpatrol works quite well, and blocks most inappropriate content. In fact many times it has blocked totally acceptable content (like Google search findings, or an entry on facebook) because it may detect inappropriate keywords in the text. Sometimes, it can be very frustrating that the program wont let you view entirely suitable content. This is a cost that you must bear. Maybe the filter will deprive you of ten websites that are totally harmless. However life goes on even if you don’t get to see them!

Filters are great help. They wont stop your addiction, but they are a great way for you to limit distractions.
